How to Choose an AI UGC Tool: 8 Tests to Run Before You Pay
Updated by the UGC Ads team
The best AI UGC tool is the one that gets your product right, keeps the same face across videos, and gets the video where it needs to go at a cost per usable clip you can sustain. Demo reels do not tell you that. Your own product does.
Below are eight tests to run on a free plan or a first paid month. Each one has a pass mark you can check in an afternoon.
Disclosure: this site is made by OnPromptAds. We recommend our own tool, OnPromptAds Brands, for Shopify brands, and we show its answer to each test so you can check it. Hold every tool to the same tests, ours included.
The eight tests at a glance
| Test | What to do | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Product accuracy | Generate 5 videos of one hero product | Colour, shape, logo and size match the real product in every frame |
| 2. Consistent host | Make 3 videos with the same AI character | A viewer would say it is the same person |
| 3. Creator formats | Ask for a transition, a lookbook and a talking clip | Each looks like a post, not a TV ad |
| 4. Trend speed | Take a reel that is trending in your niche | Your version is ready the same day |
| 5. Where it goes | Try to get one video live | No download, re-upload and re-caption loop |
| 6. Labelling | Look for AI labelling in the workflow | You can mark it as AI and keep that label in the ad |
| 7. Rights | Read the terms | You can run outputs as paid ads on the platforms you use |
| 8. Real cost | Count the videos you would actually keep | Cost per usable video is below your current creative cost |
1. Product accuracy comes first
A UGC ad that shows the wrong shade, a missing logo or a ring that looks twice its size sells a product you do not ship. That becomes a return, a complaint, or an ad account problem.
How to test: pick your hardest product, one with fine detail, print or reflective metal. Generate five videos. Pause on the frames where the product is closest to the camera and compare with the product page.
Our answer: OnPromptAds Brands builds from your real product photos, imported from your Shopify store or added by URL or upload. We still tell every customer to check each frame before an ad runs; no generator is right every time.
2. The same face, every time
UGC works partly because viewers recognise a person. If your AI host looks different in every video, you lose that.
How to test: create one character and make three different videos with it. Put the first frames side by side.
Our answer: AI characters in Brands are made from one photo and reused across reels. The examples page shows one male character used in two different reels.
3. Formats that look like posts
The point of UGC is that it looks native to the feed. Ask for formats creators actually post: an outfit transition, a lookbook, a fit check, a quick product demo, a talking clip with a hook in the first second.
How to test: write three hooks with the hook generator and make one video per format.
Our answer: Brands makes UGC-style reels such as outfit transitions, lookbooks and street-selfie fit checks, plus 8-second product clips from your photos and scripted multi-scene video (in beta).
4. How fast a trend becomes your ad
Trends in short video move in days. A tool that needs a fresh brief and a week of edits misses most of them.
How to test: find a reel that is doing well in your niche this week. Time how long it takes to get a version with your product.
Our answer: viral reel remix in Brands takes a reel that is already working and rebuilds it with your product and presenter: keep the original person, swap in an AI character or upload a face, and swap the product. It is on paid plans (Plus and up). The free Viral Spy Chrome extension saves trending Instagram reels by views and engagement so you have something to remix.
5. Where the video goes next
A finished video is not a running ad. Count the steps between “generated” and “live”.
How to test: take one video all the way to a scheduled post or a paused ad.
Our answer: Brands schedules to Instagram and Facebook and launches Meta ad campaigns from the same workspace, or you can download. TikTok publishing is coming soon, not live yet.
6. Labelling built in, not bolted on
AI UGC must not pose as a real customer. In the US, the FTC’s final rule on fake reviews and testimonials covers testimonials from people who do not exist, which includes AI-generated ones. Ad platforms also have their own AI labelling rules.
How to test: check that you can write “AI-generated” into the caption or on screen and that nothing in the tool nudges you to present the character as a customer.

7. Rights to run it as an ad
Read the terms before you spend. You want the right to use outputs commercially, in paid ads, on the platforms you use, for as long as you like. If you upload a real person’s face, you need that person’s written permission first.
8. The real cost per usable video
Plan prices are easy to compare and mostly misleading. What matters is the price of the videos you keep.
How to test: in your trial month, count every video you generated and every one you would actually run. Divide the month’s cost by the keepers. Compare that number with what one hired creator video costs you today.
Our answer: Brands has a free plan for Shopify stores (100 credits once, no card), then Plus at $29, Pro at $99 and Ultra at $249 a month. Credits are spent on images and video; captions, ad copy and store import are included. There is no free trial.
A one-week test plan
- Day 1: pick one hero product and write five hooks.
- Day 2: run tests 1 to 3 in each tool on your shortlist.
- Day 3: run test 4 on a reel trending in your niche this week.
- Day 4: take one video live in each tool (test 5) as a small paused or low-budget ad.
- Days 5 to 7: read the labelling and rights terms, count keepers, and work out cost per usable video.
Keep the tool that wins on accuracy and cost per keeper. Everything else is a tie-breaker.

Questions people ask
What is the best AI UGC tool?
The one that keeps your product accurate and your AI host consistent on your own catalog, at a cost per usable video you can live with. Run the eight tests in this guide on a free account. For Shopify brands, our pick is OnPromptAds Brands; we make it, so test it the same way you test anything else.
Can AI UGC tools use my real product?
Good ones build from your product photos rather than drawing a look-alike. Always check the colour, shape, logo and size in every frame against the real product before an ad runs.
Should I pick a tool that also publishes ads?
If you will run the videos as Meta ads or post them on Instagram and Facebook, a tool that schedules and launches from the same place saves the download, re-upload and re-caption step for every variation.
How do I compare prices between AI UGC tools?
Work out the cost per usable video: plan price divided by the videos you would actually keep in a month after rejecting the ones with product errors. A cheaper plan with a high reject rate costs more.
